So many of today’s best design projects effectively blend the old and the new in perfect harmony. That’s not always the case, of course, as some designs simply lean into a fully modern aesthetic, and that can be beautiful in its own right. However, there is something about this blending approach that is both comforting and timeless, which is why so many homeowners turn to it time and again.
On this page, we’d like to take a closer look at a wonderful design that highlights why old and new will always work together nicely. This kitchen project in Nashville was completed by Mia LeNoir of Beth Haley Design, and it is an excellent representation of what can be called “craftsman modern”. Let’s unpack why this works so well and the role that CopperSmith was able to play in the job.
A Fresh Take on the Craftsman Spirit
Few styles are as well-defined or understood as craftsman. This approach is centered, as the name would suggest, on quality and durability first and foremost. It often means using solid wood as a core material, along with visible joinery, to make the overall feel of a space impressive right from the start. Any kitchen that represents the craftsman style is going to be an enjoyable place to spend time and prepare a meal.
By introducing a modern angle to the craftsman style, Mia LeNoir was able to bring a wonderful feel and look to this Nashville home. There are still plenty of indicators of what makes craftsman so special, like the exposed beams and woodgrain cabinets, but it has been updated for the 21st century in a number of ways. Of course, the use of metal for the range hood – more on that in a moment – is a big part of it, along with the clean lines and big, open countertops.
There is no way that you could look at this kitchen and say it is stuck in the past in any way. It looks modern, but manages to do so in a traditional, comforting way. It’s not industrial or commercial in the way that some modern kitchens are designed, yet it feels brand new and fresh. This is a balancing act that isn’t always easy to achieve, and the skill of the designer is obvious.
Making a Statement with the Euro ES3
It’s hard to pick out one dominant feature in this kitchen, as the space is nicely balanced and no one thing sticks out from the rest of the room. In our opinion, however, the Euro ES3 modern stainless steel hood certainly deserves some extra attention, as it looks beautiful hanging over the stove. The long, flowing lines that are carved by the shape of this hood break up the pattern of mostly straight lines everywhere else.
The chosen finish is another reason the hood stands out. By going with Brushed Stainless Steel in a Smooth texture, the hood pairs perfectly with the refrigerator and stove. An additional texture could have been added to this custom hood to make it even more noticeable, but the choice to stick with a smooth finish was wise. It means the hood doesn’t take over too much of the visual interest in the kitchen, and it also pushes the design slightly in the modern direction.
Blending Materials Beautifully
There isn’t anything revolutionary about the idea of using a variety of different materials in a kitchen design. After all, most kitchens use multiple different materials, colors, and textures to come together into a cohesive unit. But doing this successfully isn’t as easy as it looks. You can’t just throw a bunch of different pieces into a kitchen and assume it’s all going to work.
Looking around this design, you can see strategic balance in action. There are multiple woodgrain elements at play, from the dark floors and cabinets to the lighter exposed beams on the ceiling. From there, you can shift attention to the stainless components we mentioned earlier, including a microwave tucked subtly into the island. The large white counters actually play a supporting role, although they are lovely in their own right. Finishing touches to balance everything out include the leather seats at the counter, the copper pots hanging on the wall, and the hanging white pendant lights with black cords.
Nothing About This Kitchen is Temporary
Beauty, in the case of this kitchen, is more than skin deep. This space is stunning on first glance, but if you look closer and get a feel for what it’s really made of, you can see that the kitchen is built to stand the test of time.

Elegance Brought to Life
Could Mia’s design have worked without the addition of a stunning handcrafted metal range hood from CopperSmith? Sure, but it would have been missing that one key piece that puts it over the top. Trying to picture this kitchen without the Euro ES3 providing custom kitchen ventilation just doesn’t seem right. Even if you swapped it out with another standard hood, the look just wouldn’t have come together.
