At CopperSmith, we are fortunate to be able to serve countless customers on a wide range of projects each year. Often, we are able to contribute one central piece to a design project, such as a statement range hood that ties a kitchen together perfectly. Sometimes, however, we are able to play an even bigger role, crafting a number of customer pieces that will all be key features in a revitalized space.

That was exactly the case when we worked with Lisa Griffiths of La Bella Casa Designs. Lisa was working on a kitchen and dining area project for a client in Doylestown, PA, and as you will see from the images and description below, it couldn’t have turned out any better.

A Personalized Vision of Luxury

The wonderful thing about luxury is that it can mean different things to different people. To one person, a luxury kitchen might mean huge granite counters, vaulted ceilings, a massive fridge, and other high-end components.

There is nothing wrong with that vision of luxury, to be sure, but it is not exclusive. The kitchen in question in this Doylestown, PA home doesn’t really include any of those elements, yet anyone could look at it and immediately get a luxurious feeling. Everything about the design is nicely balanced, it includes quality components, and is extremely functional. When seen that way, this is absolutely a luxury kitchen beyond any question, and it appears to go about capturing that feeling of luxury in a way that stays true to the rest of the house.

The Designer DS2 is a Perfect Centerpiece

There are many wonderful elements included in this kitchen design, and we’ll discuss more of them as we move along. As for the star of the show, however, we think that the Designer DS2 easily claims that title. Perched high above the range, this custom metal range hood doesn’t have a traditional shape, but it looks at home in this layout while effectively moving air out of the kitchen while a meal is being prepared.

In a kitchen that uses mostly light tones, the Dark Antique Copper finish chosen for the DS2 hood was a smart pick. That finish is elevated even further by the Beehive Hammered apron texture. Hammered metal is great for reflecting light in various directions and drawing the eye naturally.

At 52’’ wide, this is a large designer kitchen range hood, yet because of where it is located in the kitchen, it doesn’t overwhelm the space. Also, since Lisa picked a hood that is only 18’’ deep, the DS2 nestles up against the post nicely without sticking out too far and creating an awkward corner. Since ordering from CopperSmith is a completely custom experience, she was able to dial in the details of her order to make sure nothing was compromised along the way.

Adding a Custom Table and Sink

If Lisa Johnson had simply turned to us to create a beautiful range hood for this kitchen project, the kitchen would still have come together nicely. However, she decided to lean on us for two additional components – a table and a sink – and the finished product is that much better for it.

First, let’s look at the sink. It features a Rustic Copper finish that pairs nicely with the finish chosen for the hood. It also has a Hand Hammered texture for additional character and to avoid having the piece look too modern with a smooth finish. And, since she chose our popular Farmhouse SB Kitchen Sink, the front of the sink is exposed, allowing the stunning copper finish to play an even bigger role in the design.

Moving over to the custom dining table, the table top that we fashioned using the same Rustic Copper finish and Hand Hammered texture offers the whole family a place to gather for a meal. Although the copper kitchen table is physically removed from the space occupied by the range hood and sink, using the same material is a great way to connect the design and make it all feel cohesive and intentional.

Using Copper to Tie the Design Together

Taking an overview of the kitchen and dining area, we can see that there are many different components that come together here. The wood cabinets are painted a bright and airy shade of blue, which is a lovely touch and a nice way to counteract the relatively dark wood flooring. There is also plenty of white in the space, with the painted exposed beams and trim work all making the room feel as light as possible.

The space additionally benefits from ample windows. The combination of natural light and light paint shades means this kitchen and dining space is at no risk of feeling too dark. So, going with a dark finish on the copper hood, sink, and table top was an excellent decision. These components, spread out around the space, balance things out and prevent the design from washing out from too many light elements. As an added bonus, the copper pieces are able to stand out and draw even more attention than they would otherwise, maximizing the effect that these custom touches are able to have.

Functional Beauty Brought to Life

What Lisa Griffiths and La Bella Casa Interior Designs were able to create in this Pennsylvania home highlights what we love about fashioning custom pieces for our clients. Lisa had a vision, and she knew exactly what was needed to make that vision a reality. Our ability to fill orders down to the smallest detail made it easy to take the idea in her head and replicate it in this kitchen.

In the end, homeowners Joseph and Jennifer Notte were thrilled with the finished product, and thanks to the focus on quality that comes with every CopperSmith order, these pieces are sure to serve them well for a lifetime. We are proud to have played a role in this successful renovation!
