A Kitchen on Spirit Lake
Lake-cabin warmth. A modern point of view.
Design: Laura Giuliani, House of G Designs · A1 Woodworking · Photography: Jeff Reed
In Mike and Susan’s Spirit Lake, Iowa, home, richly stained wood, white marble and a custom metal hood bring lake-cabin warmth into a modern kitchen.
Designer Laura Giuliani of House of G Designs envisioned an inviting space with refined details. With A1 Woodworking credited on the project, the completed kitchen centers on a CopperSmith® Artisan AT2 in brushed stainless steel, with matte brass straps, rivets and trim.
“We wanted something beyond a standard appliance—something with character, presence, and carefully considered detailing.”
On choosing CopperSmith for this project
Lake-cabin warmth, thoughtfully refined.
Laura’s vision began with the relaxed character of a lake home. Rich wood cabinetry supplies warmth and texture; white marble lightens the countertops and backsplash. Brass connects the hood to the pot filler and cabinet hardware.
The result feels comfortable and striking, with each material contributing to the whole.
A stainless steel hood with a warmer detail.
Framed by glass-front cabinets, the Artisan AT2 gives the cooking wall a sculptural center. Its brushed stainless body contrasts with the wood, while matte brass straps follow the curve of the face.
Rivets add a measured rhythm. Horizontal brass trim defines the lower edge and repeats the warmer accents throughout the room. Laura envisioned the hood as the centerpiece that brings these choices together.
Brushed stainless steel. Matte brass.
Cool steel forms the broad surface; warm brass defines the details. The brushed grain catches light across the hood’s curve, while the brass relates to the surrounding wood and hardware.

Custom sizing, construction details & ventilation
For a new AT2 order, select dimensions, mounting, finishes and compatible ventilation around your kitchen. The model offers optional 1-inch-wide, 16-gauge metal straps; placement varies with hood size and shape. Final dimensions and details are recorded in a project-specific CAD drawing for approval before fabrication.
Coordinate the insert, duct route and cabinetry with your project specialist. Explore integrated ventilation.
A kitchen made for life by the lake.
Laura is most proud of how naturally the contrasting materials come together. The kitchen feels elevated and welcoming, with the custom hood capturing that balance through clean lines, substantial scale and warm metallic detailing.
A few useful questions.
How can I compare stainless steel and brass before ordering?
Request physical finish samples and place them beside your actual cabinetry, stone and hardware. Review the pairing under the lighting you use throughout the day.
Can I adapt the AT2 to my kitchen?
The AT2 is configurable for a new project. Work with your specialist on size, finish details, mounting and compatible ventilation; the approved CAD drawing defines the final specification.
