The nature of interior design is such that trends come and go in waves. One style will be popular for a while, and it seems like every kitchen or bathroom you see, for example, fits into that trendy design pattern. Then, at some point, things switch up and a new aesthetic becomes the leader that all others will follow.

Of course, not every project falls neatly into these trends and patterns. Sometimes, a kitchen project just goes completely in its own direction, which is the case for the project we are going to highlight on this page. Randy Jeffcoat Builders created an amazing kitchen in Bluffton, South Carolina for homeowners Brad and Kate Welsh that doesn’t necessarily fit into any specific box. It seems to draw inspiration from a number of sources, and even after looking over the photos again and again, there is always a new element or special touch to notice. This is going to be a fun luxury kitchen design to examine, so let’s get started.
It’s Not Necessary to Fit Any Definition
There is a strong temptation to pick a specific design style when first starting any home renovation or new build project. Something about knowing that your choices fit neatly into a predefined box lends a sense of comfort and peace of mind.
But that’s not the way it has to be. There should be no rules in interior design, and sometimes it’s best to just go your own way. The homeowners on this project obviously felt free to run with their own vision, no matter what that might mean about drawing from different types of design.
In some ways, you could say this is a modern kitchen. It has plenty of popular modern features, after all, including a big island with stone countertop, a large stainless-steel range, and plenty of metal touches. On the other hand, traditional design is represented as well, with the exposed stone, open shelves, and more. And, since the current definition of modern design includes a strong minimalist bent, this kitchen goes the other way by including many different features and decorations, taking an almost eclectic approach to the layout. When it’s all added up, this is a unique kitchen, and that’s perhaps the best compliment that it could be given.
Our Classic CX8 is the Anchor
Sure, there are many notable pieces here, but it’s hard to take your eye off the Classic CX8 from CopperSmith in the middle of it all. This is a bold, beautiful artisan metal range hood that was custom made specifically for this kitchen. As with everything sold by CopperSmith, this hood lives up to lofty quality standards and performs a nicely as it looks.
When this hood was ordered, a number of important choices were made that set the stage for the rest of the design decisions made as this kitchen came together. The Dark Antique Copper finish with a smooth texture was chosen, which we think was the ideal option for this space. Additionally, Old Coin Copper Straps and Standing Steams were added. These touches could have been skipped, of course, but adding them gives the hood the extra detail that makes it suitable as a kitchen statement piece.
Craftsmanship at Every Turn
Once you’ve taken in the many different elements that were used to create this kitchen, one thing that stands out is the degree of craftsmanship that went into the project. The homeowners clearly made a smart choice by hiring Randy Jeffcoat Builders to take on the job, because the attention to detail and fine finishing touches are obvious.

The stonework around the stove is beautiful, for one thing. There is also the perfect placement of the open shelves near the hood, and the beautiful shaping on the cabinet faces. Even the lighting fixtures had to be carefully installed and strategically placed to work properly within the design as a whole. This wasn’t an easy job to bring together such a complex, intricate plan in the real world, but they obviously got it right.
Function Has Not Been Forgotten
It’s easy to see with just a glance at this kitchen that aesthetics were very important to the homeowners. They clearly had a vision for what they wanted this kitchen to look like, and that vision came to life at the hands of a talented builder. With that said, unlike with some other design tactics, function has not been thrown out in favor of appearance.
Imagine for a moment preparing a meal in this kitchen. At the stove, you would have an assortment of burner options to use, and a pot filler arm is available if you need to put something on to boil. To your right, the prep sink is always waiting to wash vegetables and hands alike. Simply turn around and a huge island with a solid slab countertop will serve as the perfect work surface.
Any avid home cook would love to prepare meals in this space, no matter what it looked like. The fact that it is visually stunning in addition to being practical and efficient is just a bonus on top of it all.
Only Custom Would Do
There was no way than an off-the-shelf range hood was going to get the job done on this project. Too much detail was needed in the hood’s design to expect any standard product to do the job. By working with CopperSmith, Randy Jeffcoat Builders was able to dial in the order precisely and come away with something that looks like it always belonged exactly where it now rests.
As for the homeowners, they were impressed with the bespoke kitchen hood and thrilled with the results of the project as a whole. Speaking about their experience with CopperSmith, they offered the following summary –
“Great customer service and the product was better than expected! Hood looks amazing!”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves and it was a pleasure to play a role in this head-turning project. Anyone hoping to design a custom hood for their unique kitchen plans can see from this example that CopperSmith is always up to the challenge!
