We can admit that at CopperSmith, we are a bit biased. We’ve been making stunning, custom metal range hoods for many years, and we think they should always be the star of the show. Like a proud parent, we want everyone to notice what we’ve created.

Of course, when we think a bit more practically, we can understand why some homeowners don’t choose to make their range hood the focus. They might have other design ideas in mind, and letting the hood play a background role is a perfectly reasonable decision.

But we still love it when a homeowner decides to go all in on highlighting the hood, and that’s exactly what Caroline Dews opted for in the kitchen of her Omaha, NE home. We can’t wait to share the pictures below, as they show what can be accomplished when a homeowner with a clear vision teams up with a company dedicated to only the highest quality craftsmanship.

A Scandinavian Approach to Comfort and Clarity

There is certainly a lot to love about Scandinavian design. In a way, you could say that it led the way in minimal design, before minimalism was as trendy and cool as it is today. Of course, Scandinavian design isn’t just about being minimal, as it also places a great emphasis on beauty and function. Bringing all of those characteristics together is the challenge facing any designer trying to hit this target.

When done well, Scandinavian modern kitchen design is calming and peaceful. It’s obvious at just a glance that such a space has been carefully thought out, yet nothing looks overdone or excessive. It’s all simple, relaxing, and comforting, which is why it’s so popular far beyond the Scandinavian region from which it draws its name.

Bringing Together Minimalism and Metalwork

At first glance, metalwork doesn’t seem to jive with Scandinavian design naturally. More often, this type of design is associated with the use of natural wood elements and soft textures. In this kitchen in Nebraska, however, that’s where the modern side of the look comes to life. By using metal, Caroline was able to introduce a modern element and make her Scandinavian space fresh and updated while still being true to the fundamental heart of this style.

Beyond the restrained use of metal, this kitchen sticks firmly to the core of minimalist design. There simply isn’t anything extra or excessive. All of the lines are clean and straight, the cabinet doors are simple, and the light fixtures over the counter are basic and functional. Perhaps the only place where the design steps out a bit to add something extra is the open shelving in front of the window. This is a nice addition that lends visual interest without getting in the way at all of the function of the room.

The Euro ES11 Was the Perfect Choice

It’s not as easy as it might seem to pick out a custom copper range hood for this kind of kitchen. Sure, you could start by looking for a “simple” range hood, but that can mean different things to different people. And, if shopping for a simple hood meant you ended up with something plain and basic, the result might have been disappointing.

Fortunately, Caroline found us and landed on the Euro ES11. We love this design and are happy to see it find a home in such a suitable kitchen. When placing her order, Caroline was able to make smart choices on the finishing touches for her handcrafted range hood, like the Black Enamel finish, the Smooth texture, and the Light Antique Brass Straps. All of it comes together in a way that blends perfectly with her other picks. Specifically, the hood goes nicely with the light fixtures and the faucet that hangs over the kitchen sink.

The narrow profile of the Euro ES11 might be our favorite thing about selecting it for this kitchen. The space has a lot of vertical movement against the wall, both with the long and narrow cabinet doors, as well as the vertical subway tile backsplash. A wide hood would have broken up this appealing look, but at just 36’’ wide, this metal range hood design maintains the aesthetic nicely.

Craftsmanship to Complement a Vision

The focus in Scandinavian design might naturally gravitate toward the famously comfortable and practical spaces that it produces, but that’s not all that’s important. Quality craftsmanship also matters in this type of design. It’s about using a limited number of components while making sure those components rise to the highest of quality standards.

This is why CopperSmith was the ideal partner for Caroline to select for this project. We simply don’t sacrifice on quality under any circumstances or for any reason. Quality craftsmanship is at the heart of our brand, and it always will be. The hood that hangs over the range in this kitchen sets the tone for the type of quality needed to bring Scandinavian design to life successfully.

Not surprisingly, everything else Caroline picked out does a similarly great job of standing up to high expectations. The woodgrain cabinet under the island, for example, is obviously made to high standards, and the counters themselves are quite impressive. No corners were cut, which is a good thing, as downgrading even one element would have subtracted dramatically from the kitchen as a whole.

Simplicity is Always In Style

Looking at the kitchen that Caroline created, it’s hard to imagine it ever looking even a bit dated. The simple, clean approach is timeless, and knowing the quality of the materials and craftsmanship that went into the range hood, that focal point is going to stand proud at the heart of the space for decades ahead.

If you are planning a kitchen design or remodeling project, CopperSmith would love to help. From range hoods and sinks to table tops and beyond, everything we craft is fully customizable and exceeds even the loftiest expectations. We hope to work with you soon!
