Stainless steel's greatest virtues are resistance to corrosion, non-reactivity with alkaline and acidic foods, resistance to scratching or denting. This makes it an excellent choice for your primary cookware set!  Most stainless cookware is compatibilie with induction cooktops, gas or electric. As opposed to Cast Iron, Stainless steel does not require seasoning to protect the surface from rust, but may be seasoned to provide a non-stick surface.
