Every great kitchen design includes taking at least one or two chances. These are risks that the designer chose to take on, knowing that the payoff could be tremendous. It’s easy enough to play it safe when designing any kind of space, and especially one as central to a home as the kitchen. However, by taking a chance and going for a bold element, it’s possible for the whole space to be elevated far beyond what it would have been otherwise.

Taking chances is what comes to mind immediately when viewing a kitchen that was created recently in Naples, Florida. By working with both CopperSmith and the incredible Wolter’s Custom Cabinets, the homeowner was able to create a transitional kitchen that executes bold decision-making to perfection.
Transitional Design is an Art Form
It’s hard enough to design a beautiful kitchen when staying within one category of design. For example, creating a sleek, modern kitchen with a minimal aesthetic is tricky work. So too is constructing a traditional, homestyle kitchen that is welcoming and cozy without being dated.
If staying in one design school is hard enough, blending two together can be downright overwhelming. With a transitional kitchen design like this one, the job is to utilize both traditional and contemporary elements in a way that doesn’t feel forced or awkward. And, judging by the images included on this page, this home in Naples got it just right.
Examples of this balance are everywhere in the design. There is the woodgrain of the lower cabinets contrasted against the larger, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry that was painted a neutral tone. There are the wood and cloth chairs at the island, along with the large rock slab countertop. The use of metal also introduces a modern touch, while the open shelving and windows in the cabinet doors are more of a traditional touch.
Using the CopperSmith Premier PR8 as a Bold Centerpiece
No matter what style of design is being targeted, it’s always helpful to have a centerpiece to tie everything together. In this kitchen, we would argue that the centerpiece is the stunning Premier PR8 range hood that we created for the customer. It’s a custom copper range hood that goes mostly in a modern, sleek direction, and it serves to balance out some of the other traditional components that are nearby.

Smart choices were made when ordering this hood to ensure that it fit nicely with the overall motif. The finish is Black Enamel, and the hood has a smooth texture. Those two selections make sure it stands out proudly in a kitchen that is otherwise marked by mostly lighter tones. To make sure this luxury kitchen range hood had enough detail to avoid being too modern and minimal, a pot rail and smooth straps were added, both in a Matte Brass finish.
The Functional Beauty of Quality Cabinetry
It would be a huge mistake to overlook the role that the cabinets fashioned by Wolter’s Custom Cabinets played in this kitchen project. The cabinets are amazing, and in addition to the sheer quality that they bring to the space, they also feature the kinds of small details that take a design from good to great.
At first glance, the cabinets seem simple enough. They are shaker-style cabinets, with flat center panels surrounded by square-edged rails and stiles. These cabinets are far from plain, however. The upper cabinets have detailed crown molding for a finishing touch, while the millwork around the island has nice detailing to bring the wood to life. It’s evident that the cabinets were made specifically for this space.

Obvious beauty aside, the cabinetry also offers a ton of functional storage for the homeowners. Every possible inch of storage space was squeezed out of the kitchen layout. Even the most passionate home cook would be able to find more than enough room here to store everything that is needed to create delicious meals for family and friends.
Weighing Risk vs. Reward When Creating a Vision
It would have been easy enough to simply go with a standard range hood that blended in with the rest of the design selections. That would have been the safe choice, and it would have looked fine. Something that roughly matched the backsplash or the counters, for example, could have gotten the job done and no one would have thought twice about it.
Taking a risk by choosing a Matte Black finish on this handcrafted copper range hood made it possible to achieve something more, however. Now, the homeowner is left with a stove hood that makes a statement and turns heads anytime someone comes over to visit.
A Kitchen Designed to Last
It’s one thing to design and build a kitchen that looks great on the day that it is finished. It’s another thing to create something that looks great and is able to stand the test of time through the use of quality materials and expert craftsmanship.
That just might be what is most impressive about this kitchen in Naples, Florida. By working with a proven contractor like Wolter’s Custom Cabinets, the doors and drawers aren’t going to wear out anytime soon. Despite regular use and abuse, these components will just keep performing as they should. And, of course, by ordering a custom hood from CopperSmith, that element is ready for whatever comes its way, as well.
The Risk Paid Off
The point of taking chances within a design is not to be risky just for the sake of being risky. It is to bring an authentic vision to life that doesn’t compromise in any way. The finished product is exactly what the homeowner had in mind because they were bold enough to go with what felt right, even if it landed slightly outside the realm of the expected.
CopperSmith is delighted to have played a role in this project, and we couldn’t be more impressed with the finished product. Our Premier PR8 Range Hood looks spectacular in the space, and the work done by Wolter’s Custom Cabinets is simply stunning. This kitchen is a perfect example of what is possible when experienced artisans and craftsmen are utilized to bring a specific, unique vision to life.
