Luxury kitchen design requires going all the way. There is no room for half measures in this pursuit. When a homeowner wants a kitchen that feels luxurious from top to bottom, it’s necessary to pull out all the stops.

Designer Makena Herget knows this to be true. An expert in luxury interior design, Makena knows how to go all-in and feature the right collection of touches to elevate transitional kitchen design to a new level of sophistication. The project highlighted below, completed in Dover, New Hampshire, is a perfect example of what luxury kitchen design can be when it is executed perfectly.

CopperSmith was fortunate to have a hand in this design in the form of our Artisan AT1 Range Hood. The custom choices Makena made for the Artisan AT1 were a perfect fit and allowed the piece to play a starring role without detracting from any of the other components of the room. Let’s take a closer look at what makes this kitchen work so well below.

Bringing Modern Luxury to Life

Typical modern design doesn’t necessarily lean into the luxury angle. Sure, many modern kitchens are full of high-end touches and tasteful finishes, but they are often too minimal in nature to really be considered luxurious. This is a fine line that many designers attempt to walk when working for today’s homeowner.

With that said, it’s absolutely possible to execute a design that is both luxurious and modern, as seen here. Some of the hallmark characteristics of modern kitchen design are seen, like the big kitchen island and the clean lines that are used within many of the components. The look of the counter is even carried up into the backsplash, which is a popular design element these days.

But there are areas where the design moves away from “standard” modern aesthetics and goes further toward making a luxury statement. The detailing used in the backsplash above the stove is one great example. There are also the bold lights hanging over the island, along with the dramatic range hood, which we will discuss in greater detail later.

Respecting the Value of Function

It’s no secret that a luxurious look and feel was the goal in this kitchen. That goal was achieved, to be sure, but not at the expense of function. A quick glance reveals that everything needed to prepare great meals at home is present in this space, and all within easy reach.

In addition to core features like a range, stove, and large sink, there is also a ton of storage included in the design. Thanks to the clean white painted finish of the cabinets and the high-end handles and pulls, the volume of storage in the space almost disappears into the background of the design. When you start counting cabinets and drawers, however, it becomes clear that this kitchen would be able to support even the most passionate of home cooks.

The Star of the Show: The Artisan AT1

Sure, we might be partial. However, from where we are sitting, the beautiful Artisan AT1 range hood is the clear star of this kitchen. It’s the piece that draws your eye from the start, even if you then start to look around the room to appreciate all of the other small touches. This kitchen might feel luxurious even without the hood, but once it was put in place, the whole design came together and was pushed over the top.

A small range hood wasn’t going to get the job done in this kitchen, either from a functional perspective or in terms of aesthetics. Only a big, bold piece was going to work here, and that’s precisely what this version of the AT1 represents. It’s a whopping 48’’ wide and 41’’ tall. That size, combined with the head-turning Pure White Semi-Glass finish, ensures that no one who walks into the kitchen will ever miss this element.

A clean white range hood would have looked nice, but it may have fallen a bit short of the luxury needed for this design. That’s where the Matte Brass straps and Brushed Stainless Steel rivets enter the picture. These are the additional elements that scream luxury and tie together the look of the hook with the other components used in the kitchen. Specifically, the details in the backsplash play perfectly with the hood.

Monochrome with the Right Accents

White is certainly the key color in the design of this kitchen. Many modern kitchen designs center around the use of white throughout the room, and it’s easy to understand the appeal of that tactic. White is timeless, it ensures that the space remains bright within even modest lighting, and it allows for the use of many different kinds of accents.

It’s those accents that are particularly well-executed in this kitchen. The hardware for the sink, for example, coordinates nicely with the hood straps while not trying to match exactly. A portion of the hanging lights also aligns with the brass theme, as do the drawer pulls.

Seeing how this completed kitchen project came together demonstrates the importance of everything playing a role, from big to small. Sure, the range hood is a starring piece, and the cabinets and counters are beautiful. But it’s hard to imagine that the kitchen would be as striking and luxurious as it is without these custom kitchen finishes being carefully considered, as well.
