If your bathroom is looking messy, outdated, or just plain boring, you’ll be relieved to know that there are several ways to freshen up your bathroom without spending a fortune or sacrificing hours of your time. The simple tips and ideas listed below will show you how just a few small touches can make a big difference in the look and functionality of your bathroom.

DECLUTTER AND REORGANIZE.

Before you start adding new features or decorations, clear out any expired or unused items in your bathroom. Empty out all of your cabinets, scrub the insides of your drawers, and then put the items away based on how often you use them. For example, you can use a pretty glass jar to hold cotton balls or q-tips right on your counter instead of keeping them in the unsightly packaging hidden away in a drawer. Similarly, clean towels should be folded and neatly stored in a drawer or basket, and you should try to ensure that every item has its own designated space to keep things organized in the long run (towels folded and placed in a specific basket, bar soap in a dish instead of directly on the counter, etc.).

SELECT MATCHING METALS.

Coordinating the metallic colors of your various fixtures is a perfect way to freshen up your bathroom. Look at items like your door hinges, faucets, towel racks, shower doors, curtain rods, and light fixtures to get a good idea of what metal you would like to use throughout the space. Although silver stainless steel is a popular and versatile option, you can really make your bathroom pop with unique copper tones or golden hues. Mixing metals is a great way to elevate your design.

ADD A PLACE TO SIT.

Want to immediately make your bathroom feel more glamorous? Add some seating to the space! It doesn’t matter whether you choose a simple bench or an elegant little pouf; the accent chair itself is what makes your bathroom feel more luxurious and fancy. If you don’t know what kind of seating would suit your space, start by looking at outdoor furniture. These items are designed to withstand humidity, rain, and heat, making them reliable options for a steamy bathroom. In any case, you’ll feel like royalty yourself when you sit in a chair to paint your toenails instead of balancing on the edge of your tub or on the toilet seat.

PICK UP NEW BATHROOM NECESSITIES.

For an elegant, streamlined look in your bathroom, think of a simple color scheme you want to adhere to. Then, pick out a new rug, shower curtain, hand and bath towels, and washcloths in complementing colors. Your space will immediately feel more put together and sophisticated when you no longer have mismatched towels or old, faded rugs! If you’re feeling particularly daring, you can pick up some wallpaper to expand upon your color scheme or purchase some stick-on tiles to update the backsplash.

BRING IN SOME GREENERY.

Bringing natural elements indoors is a simple way to freshen up your bathroom and make it feel more peaceful and calming, whether you choose to add a plant in the windowsill or feature some little succulents on a bathroom shelf. If you have enough space, you can even bring a small tree into the room, such as a parlor palm or a jade plant. For those with limited floor space, adding a hanging plant or two (especially ones with cascading flowers) is also perfect for adding a touch of nature to your home. Of course, you can always opt for fake plants if you don’t have a green thumb!

CREATE A GALLERY WALL.

Making your own gallery wall is the perfect excuse to hit up some thrift shops or vintage stores to look for unique pieces of art, antique books, and other objects that catch your eye. Gallery walls can range from minimalistic and sleek to playful and colorful, but the basic idea is that you should build it around a specific idea or theme. For example, a neutral gallery wall could feature framed pieces of sheet music, a carved music note motif, a few paintings of musicians, and a quote about fine arts. You can find a striking wildlife-themed gallery wall here, where the creator also listed where she found all of her unique items!
